What is Pupil Premium funding?

The school receives funding for all pupils who receive free school meals and who have received free school meals in the last six years. This is called Pupil Premium.

Department for Education statement:

• The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding, to tackle the disadvantage, reaches the pupils who need it the most.
• Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy, like all schools, receives a Pupil Premium Grant. If pupils have registered for free school meals in the last six years, are looked after by children or have parents that work in the armed forces, then they are eligible for the pupil premium.

What are the aims of Pupil Premium?
The main purpose of the Pupil Premium is to close this gap by raising the achievements and aspirations of disadvantaged groups of children. Research shows that some children from disadvantaged backgrounds underachieve when compared to children from non-disadvantaged backgrounds. The funding is provided to support these pupils in reaching their full potential and to close the attainment gap.

Who is eligible for the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools for pupils who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals or have been at any point in the past 6 years. It is also allocated for children who have been looked after by the Local Authority recently.

 You can register for Free School Meals if you get any of these benefits:

• Income support
• Universal credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7400
• Income-based jobseekers allowance
• Income-rated Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The Guarantee element of State Pension Credits
• Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190.
• NRPF families who have had successful claims to the ESFA

Free school meals for ALL F2 & Key Stage 1 pupils

All children in reception, year 1 and year 2 at state-funded schools in England will be eligible for free school meals, as part of the national Universal Free Infant School Meals Scheme. It is important, however, that all parents who receive one of the benefits listed above still register for free school meals as this will enable your child's school to claim "pupil premium allocation". The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise attainment. This additional funding for schools can help to buy new equipment and resources.
