The aim for our RSE curriculum is to help our children to build healthy friendships and positive relationships in an age appropriate way. An important part of RSE at Stanstead is the ability to discuss and debate issues with clarity, and listen to people’s points of view, whilst understanding that you do not have to agree with them but recognise their point of view.

The overall objectives of the RSE curriculum are concerned about raising awareness of attitudes and values, developing personal and social skills and promoting knowledge and understanding. RSE will look at aspects of diversity in an inclusive and non-judgemental way. At Stanstead, we whole-heartedly support the philosophy of RSE and believe it is most effective when taught as part of PSHE.

Relationship Education

Relationships Education will put in place the building blocks needed for positive and safe relationships, including with family, friends and online.

Your child will be taught what a relationship is, what friendship is, what family means and who can support them. In an age-appropriate way, your child’s school will cover how to treat each other with kindness, consideration and respect.

By the end of primary school, pupils will have been taught content about:

• Being Safe

Health Education

Health Education aims to give your child the information they need to make good decisions about their own health and wellbeing, to recognise issues in themselves and others, and to seek support as early as possible when issues arise.

By the end of primary school, pupils will have been taught content on:

• Mental Wellbeing
• Internet Safety
• Physical Health and Fitness
• Healthy Eating and Lifestyles
• Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco - Facts and Risks
• Health and Prevention
• Changing Adolescent Body

What are your Parental Rights?

The important lessons you teach your child about healthy relationships, looking after themselves and staying safe, are respected and valued at Stanstead. Teaching at school will complement and reinforce the lessons you teach your child as they grow up.

At Bilsthorpe Flying High we teach RSHE (and PHSE) through Jigsaw. It provides accurate information about the body, reproduction, sex and sexual health. It also gives children and young people essential skills for building positive, enjoyable, respectful and non-exploitative relationships, focusing on staying safe both on and offline.
